Arena Calling Targets: Priority goes where??
I'm in arenas - level 10-15 right now so some of this may or may not apply as well to HoH but it may.
What is the "proper" priority for targets? What do you look at to determine which person to take out?
My philosophy has been to pick a soft target and if possible a soft target (ie not a warrior/mo) that is up near the front that our team's tank can get to. Kill soft targets first and then progress. Hopefully the "choosen" one runs in by himself and it is easy, but that is rarely the case.
First lets assume no class duplications and all equal level - how would you rank the classes? Any particular combo that stands out as a high or low priority?
My next scenario is 2 obvious tanks - can you really stand to let the 2 run in and do damage or do you have to start to target a "tougher" first opponent? This is one of my prime questions - do you have to account for 2 warriors dealing big damage in case they work together.
Next - when does lower level take priority - ie if you rank the w/mo as the last target based on class but he is 4 levels below you - should he become the choosen target.
Finally, what do you look at during the course of the action to pick targets? Do you stick with someone where your melee guy is or do you progress down the line very similiar to at kickoff? Do you try and watch who has burned the rez and purposefully NOT target them until the end?
Thoughts? Who should call?

monk
elems/mes/nec
ranger
warriors
Warriors call targets
As far as the ranking, dont worry about it. Unless you plan on spend the rest of your days in the level 10-15 arena get to the HoH. Thats where it counts. Your not going to even have to worry about who is what level.

I expected some "not hardcore enough - worry about HoH" comments, but I try to enjoy the ride and right now the ride is in the level 10-15 arena - I will worry about the next level when the story and gameplay gets me there.
I agree with your ranks by the way. It does seem to be a job that works with Warrior but they also (in my experience) seem to get locked down with an immediate target after target 1 is complete.

IMO Rangers and any long range characters should call targets. They can see the field better than a Warrior can.

HH- As a ranger, I wonder if this isn't correct.
The best answer for why it should be the warrior is that often, at least in PUGs in the arena, they go after what they go after regardless of the team and therefore the best team approach is to follow the big guy.

ranger/nec/mes make good target callers. only problem is if they go down or havto flee for any reason.. that is where a backup caller comes in handy.

Very true, but that's the hard-headed Warriors that we see alittle to much. I'll admit I follow Warriors that call simply because I'm not a leader. I've been on a few PUGs that a Ranger or an Elemental has called and we've won decently.
Look at it this way, a long range toon has the time to TAB through the other team's characters to find the next target and get ready to call once the active target is dead.
If a Warrior is TABing through, the active target could be getting healed while their eyes are wanding about the field. If a long range is doing the same, the Warrior is would see the heal (becuase thier eyes never left the target) and counter.
The only time a Warrior should override a call is if the other team is blocking him/her to the next target.

That's the order I like to call in. Sometimes you have to switch up. Like if a mesmer has been pissing your monks off all round it would be beneficial to kill him before the enemy monks.
As to who should be calling, I think the PERSON should be the basis of the decision, not the PROFESSION.

I'm with Vind on that one.
The best target caller is the one who is fastest and quickest to switch...
If they take too long to switch targets if the one current target is taking too long to die, switching the ENTIRE TEAM fast to kill another target is actually beneficial.

The one thing that I would hope everyone agrees to is that it is generally bad to have multiple people calling targets, or to not have a designated target caller. When I was making my R/Me, I would call targets in the PUG arenas because I had more experience than most of the people I was playing with.
But when I get to HoH I'm sure I wont be as good at calling targets as some of the more experienced pvp players, regardless of their profession. But between two players with an equal amount of ability to call targets, I would say that a Ranger is definitely in a better position to call than a Warrior. You can just see the battle a lot better than a Warrior.
